Full Job Description

You will serve as a Joint Fires & Targeting Specialist in the Operations Directorate, Joint Fires Division of HEADQUARTERS US INDO-PACIFIC COMMAND.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-13 I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Developing, coordinating and executing policy and guidance on strategic targeting plans including targeting and attack policy, strategic targeting selection, and targeting guidance for operational fires; 2) Planning, synchronizing, and coordinating execution of joint fires to achieve the commanders objectives; 3) Training and educating staff on command theater strategic and operational targeting system applications; 4) Creating and presenting decision briefs to leadership.

GS-12 I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Reviewing, analyzing and evaluating fires and targeting plans, 2) Assisting with the coordination and execution of joint fires to achieve objectives; 3) Maintaining technical proficiency on all current Joint Fires related IT and software systems; 4) Educating staff on joint fires and targeting processes.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will coordinate all aspects of theater joint fires and targeting such as targeting and attack policy, strategic target selection, and fires and targeting guidance for the employment of joint fires.
  • You will ensure all fires and targeting plans and operations align with current National Security Strategy, National Military Strategy, the Unified Command Plan, and pertinent Contingency Plans.
  • You will review, analyze, and evaluate fires and targeting plans of subordinate joint forces, sub-unified commands, service components, and functional components.
  • You will maintain technical expertise and proficiency on all Joint Fires related IT and software systems.
  • You will work with USINDOPACOM staff and other DoD staff to develop theater strategic response options for the National Command Authority for plans, future plans, and crisis action planning.
  • You will coordinate for the approval of targeting authority requests and advocate for intelligence and targeting support from other combatant commands, the national level targeting community and the National Command Authority.
  • You will train and educate USINDOPACOM staff and subordinate units on joint fires and targeting processes and other related topics.
