The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified individual to join the Information Technology team as a Java Application Developer (IT Application Development Journey).
The vision of this role is to support the agency’s mission by shaping and maintaining systems that directly affect public safety, operational integrity, and the lives of those in our care.
The candidate of choice will be tasked with independently applying critical thinking and technical expertise to analyze complex business needs and translate them into effective, high-quality solutions for the Offender Management Network Information (OMNI) system, working closely with the Business Analysis Unit and other technical partners.
OMNI is the Department’s primary enterprise application and serves as a foundational system across DOC, as well as for partner agencies at the state, federal, and interstate levels.
The system supports some of the most complex sentencing calculations in the nation and delivers real-time data that powers incarceration tracking, administrative functions, and essential back-office operations.
Built and maintained in Java, OMNI consists of approximately 1.7 million lines of production code and requires thoughtful stewardship, precision, and accountability.
In this position, you will be entrusted with delivering critical system modifications in a fast-paced and high-impact environment.
Your work will directly influence the health, safety, and security of the agency, its partners, stakeholders, and the incarcerated individuals.
You will develop and oversee tactical changes to OMNI while ensuring compliance with established standards and processes that support reliable, business-driven outcomes.
You will also contribute to long-term technical strategies, collaborating across Java, .NET, Quality Assurance, and Business Analysis teams to ensure system sustainability, integration, and continuous improvement.

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework.
Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time.
Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite.
Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process.
Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
