Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an IT security specialist in the Navy's engineering command, where you'll test systems for weaknesses, analyze risks, and recommend ways to protect networks and technology from cyber threats.

It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in cybersecurity testing and a strong understanding of how to safeguard sensitive information in a military or technical environment.

Key Requirements

  • One year of IT-related experience demonstrating attention to detail, such as reviewing IT work for accuracy and consistency
  • One year of IT-related experience in customer service, including monitoring IT performance trends and providing support at various tiers
  • One year of IT-related experience in oral communication, such as presenting IT strategies to senior leaders
  • One year of IT-related experience in problem solving, including conducting risk analyses of IT systems
  • One year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent, including hands-on cyber penetration testing of applications, systems, and networks
  • Experience assessing computer network weaknesses based on architecture, technologies, and configurations
  • Experience analyzing operational impacts of vulnerabilities and recommending changes to system design, software, and procedures

Full Job Description

You will serve as a IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) in the Command Information Office of NAVFAC OSF, Cyber Planning and Response Center, Adversarial Operations Team I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1.

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: REVIEWING MY OWN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-RELATED WORK OR DATA AND HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWING THE WORK OF OTHERS TO ENSURE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, AND CONSISTENCY WITH STANDARDS.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: MONITOR CUSTOMER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) PERFORMANCE TRENDS TO IDENTIFY STANDARD REMEDIES AT DIFFERENT SUPPORT TIER LEVELS (E.G., TIER-1, TIER-2, TIER-3).

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: PRESENT INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) PROGRAM STRATEGIES TO SENIOR LEADERS FOR THE INCORPORATION OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES. 4.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: PERFORM A RISK ANALYSIS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) SYSTEMS TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS AND RECOMMEND SOLUTIONS.

In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1.) Performing hands-on cyber penetration testing of applications, systems, and/or networks; 2.) Assessing computer network weaknesses based on architecture, technologies deployed, and configurations; 3.) Analyzing operational impact resulting from identified system vulnerabilities; 4.) Recommending changes to system design, software, operating procedures, and other protection mechanisms to ensure system integrity; 5.) Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will develop recommendations and informs the supported customers of the vulnerabilities identified, their potential impacts to the system/network/mission, and potential ways to mitigate the risk.
  • You will assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting network-based security assessments; analyze network scan results to determine and categorize potential vulnerabilities and exploit vulnerabilities as part of assessment.
  • You will support assessed unit by advising them on mitigations of vulnerabilities through technical or procedural means; conduct post-deployment archiving of mission data and return of systems to deployable condition.
  • You will plan builds and maintain sustainable facilities; deliver environmental, utilities, and other base services; and acquires and manages expeditionary combat force systems and equipment.
  • You will serve as a team member to execute all Adversarial operations from scoping the assessment to developing the final report; and responsible for coordinating with local personnel and DON/DON Intel Community personnel as needed.
