Base salary range: $62,107 - $80,737
Typical requirements: 1 year specialized experience at GS-10. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 years graduate study.
Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves managing and securing Oracle and SQL databases for the Navy's shipyard IT systems, including monitoring performance, applying security updates, and troubleshooting issues to keep data reliable and protected.
It also includes supporting users with installations, training, and problem-solving.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in database administration and cybersecurity, who enjoys working in a structured government environment focused on defense.
You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (DATAMGT/INFOSEC) in the Database Administration (DBA)/SQL/Oracle Support Branch (10915), IT Infrastructure & Operations Division (1091), Information Technology & Cybersecurity (ITACS) Office (109) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience maintaining and monitoring Oracle and/or Structured Query Language (SQL) server databases to ensure reliability and accessibility.
Experience performing regular system checks, reviewing logs, and taking corrective actions to resolve performance or availability issues.
Experience applying database Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), security patches, vulnerability scans, and Information Assurance (IA) updates to safeguard data and systems.
Experience planning, testing, and applying vendor patches, and configuration changes to Oracle and/or SQL Server environments.
