Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

In addition to the Basic Competency Requirements listed above, one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-12 in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as the installing and providing support for a Local Area Network (LAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN); experience with Cisco Routers/Switches; and experience with information assurance policies and procedures to maintain a secure network: Installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network hardware, and network device operating system software; resolving conventional network problems, patching identified security vulnerabilities, and responding to user questions regarding specific network issues.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

  • Continuously monitors network and system performance, proactively identifying errors, outages, and inefficiencies.
  • Analyzes alerts and performance data to assess potential incidents and escalates appropriately.
  • Troubleshoots routine network and system problems, collaborating with IT teams to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Documents monitoring activities, incidents, and resolutions using the designated ticketing system.
  • Generates standard reports on network and system performance, highlighting trends and risks.
  • Coordinates Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs) to minimize impact on users and systems.
  • Ensures compliance with security protocols and maintains the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Reviews and fine-tunes network components to achieve peak efficiency and operational standards.
  • Uses benchmarks and performance data to plan for increased capacity and additional workloads.
  • Participates in project planning, monitoring, and coordinating IT systems analysis and programming functions.
