Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an IT cybersecurity specialist for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, focusing on building and securing web-based systems for the Department of Defense.

You'll plan, develop, test, and maintain secure web products while ensuring users follow cybersecurity rules and have proper access.

Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

In addition to the Basic Competency Requirements listed above, one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS 11 in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Installing, configuring, testing and maintaining IT applications in accordance with customer needs and requirements; developing and analyzing product plans, release schedules, and product validity before release; and identifying, researching, and implementing emerging technology that enhances intranet and extranet capabilities.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Develops plans, schedules, and estimates resource requirements to deliver web products.
  • Ensures all users have security clearances and access authorization and are aware of their cybersecurity responsibilities for DoD Information System (DoD IS) and Platform Information Technology (PIT) systems.
  • Collects systems data and conducts analysis, designs web pages, creates site content, and prepares programming specifications based upon customer need and source of data.
  • Tests, debugs, modifies and validates web information before releasing the product to the customer.
  • Planning the design, development, testing, implementation, and management of Intranet and Extranet activities, including systems/applications, development of Web pages and identification/research of new web technology.
