Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping protect the Defense Finance and Accounting Service's computer systems from cyber threats by checking security measures, advising on policies, and ensuring everything follows safety rules.

Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

In addition to the Basic Competency Requirements listed above, one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11 in the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined Assisting in completion of all cybersecurity assessment activities to include: comprehensive understanding of the assessment and authorization process and the ability to independently assess and validate the security of information systems.

Prior experience with, knowledge of, cybersecurity frameworks (i.e. RMF, CSF, ISO 27001) preferred.

Preferred certifications: CCISO, CISA, CISM, CISSO, CISSP, CISSP-ISSEP, CPTE, CySA+, FITSP-A, GCSA, GSLC, GSNA Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • Advises managers and supervisors on information security issues and policy.
  • Conducts assessments of management, operational, and technical security controls to determine their effectiveness.
  • Verifies that the security posture of applications, networking, and systems/components are implemented as stated in documentation, identifies deviations, and recommends corrective actions.
  • Assists with detailed risk analysis, considering threats, vulnerabilities, and the probability of occurrence, especially when a system undergoes a major change.
  • Analyze systems and evaluate their compliance with IT security, resilience, and dependability requirements, and ensures configuration guidelines are followed.
