  • Skills in communicating with users, developing documentation, and conducting GIS training

Full Job Description

This is a Senior GIS Technician position with Metro’s Information Technology Services GIS Division.

This position will perform duties associated with compilation and maintenance of Metro GIS layers, including ArcGIS Indoors.

This position will use Metro’s enterprise ArcGIS Portal and ArcGIS Online to help Metro customers create and maintain their content.

This position will use software to process drone imagery as well as conduct GIS analysis tasks and generate cartographic products as needed.


Metro Information Technology Services is the central IT provider for the 60 departments and agencies of the Metro Government with a mission to “lead the delivery of exceptional technology, service, and solutions.” ITS staff members deliver 33 separate service lines to our partners within Metro Government. These services support the delivery of services to Nashville’s residents and visitors. Requirements

  • Use a variety of spatial editing techniques to accurately create and update an array of GIS datasets, including planimetric and facility data.
  • Utilize ArcGIS Indoors for converting CAD drawings into geodatabase models.
  • Administer projects in Site Scan for processing Drone Imagery.
  • Utilize Cyclomedia for capturing features in the right-of-way.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of GIS datasets.
  • Complete GIS analysis requests and create high quality cartographic products that show the spatial distribution of various kinds of data,
  • Create and maintain content within Metro’s enterprise portal and ArcGIS Online as well as Implement Esri configured solutions in Portal and ArcGIS Online.
  • Use multiple data sources to develop applications for visualization, analysis, and presentation of data.
  • Communicate with internal and external technical resources to resolve end-user issues and provide guidance to users on methods for correcting problems.
  • Develop documentation and conduct in-house training on GIS software and applications.
  • Feature data extraction using deep learning tools.

Qualifications

High School Diploma and two (2) years of jexperience in geographic information system technology.
OR
Associate’s Degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience in geographic information system technology.

Additional Information
