Full Job Description

The M&R Leader - Tree Crew position is a working supervisor over a crew involved in tree maintenance for Metro Parks locations. Duties consist of making work assignments, overseeing work in progress to ensure that the quality meets expectations. Performs related duties as required.

This position requires extreme physical ability and agility. The incumbent must have the ability to stoop, climb, and stand for long periods of time as well as the ability to work from high places.


Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County.

Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway.

Metro Parks offers after school programs for children, activities for seniors (55+), cultural arts classes, dog parks, fitness classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, art galleries, and much more.

Requirements

  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate the work of a tree crew.
  • Operate bucket truck for pruning & removal of dead or damaged trees.
  • Climb trees using ropes and saddle.
  • Inspect trees and make proper cuts when pruning.
  • Remove tree stumps and grinds brush.
  • Ensure that work is accomplished in a safe and efficient manner and that all safety rules are followed.
  • Keep log of daily activities.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment used in tree care & removal.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of verifiable experience in tree work.
No Substitution

LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid Driver License

NOTE: Applicants must obtain a TN Class A Driver’s License within 6 months of hire, and it must be maintained during employment.

Failure to obtain the CDL within the six (6) month probationary period may result in automatic termination/dismissal.

Candidates who possess or obtain a CDL license must be able to pass a drug/alcohol test and are subject to random testing.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
