Full Job Description

King County Superior Court is hiring two full-time, benefited Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA) Court Coordinator positions.

The ITA Court Coordinator plays a critical role in this unique court and is responsible for providing support to the ITA Program Manager, the ITA Judge and the ITA Commissioner in administering and managing the calendar case load.

The ITA Coordinator coordinates hearing calendar schedules based on the workload protocol priority, case expirations and judicial availability.

Incumbents maintain case statistics and perform analyses under supervision.WHO MAY APPLY: THIS POSTING IS OPEN ONLY TO REGULAR AND TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES WHO ARE CURRENTLY ON THE KING COUNTY PAYROLL

Candidates for this position may be placed on an eligibility list for future recruitments.WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE: This position is located at the Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA) Court at the Ninth and Jefferson Building, 908 Jefferson St., Seattle, WA.

The incumbent maybe required to work at other court facilities. This is a full-time, FLSA nonexempt (hourly), overtime-eligible position with a standard workweek of 35 hours per week.

Court office hours are from 7:15 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The typical expected work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. -5:00p.m.

Requirements

The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.

Provide support to the ITA Program Manager and the ITA Judge for managing civil cases and case assignments.

Synthesize civil case load data and analyze the information in order to make appropriate assessment and assignments. Manage the civil case database.

Oversee the daily assignment of in-person and video hearing for the daily calendars for 2 or more courtrooms.

  • Maintain positive communications with stakeholders and provide ongoing updates of calendar status to all necessary parties.
  • Schedules interpreters for parties and witnesses in Court hearings.
  • Provide support and coverage for the bailiff when necessary. Assist in coordinating courtrooms and staffing.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for computer systems related to case management, video and other necessary systems. Propose new program functionality for the civil case database and other systems. Act as liaison with Superior Court IT to resolve technology concerns or necessary improvements.
  • Assist in drafting and implement court and case management policy and procedure in consultation with others.
  • Develop and maintain written materials that document the court's practices and procedures.
  • Coordinates, schedules and manages cases in the ITA Assisted Outpatient Treatment program.
  • Assist with analyzing procedures related to complex case management and scheduling issues. Gather, track and monitor civil trial information; identify problems or issues.
  • Track and compile information on ITA hearing/trial status. Establish, organize and maintain statistical data and analyses on civil case load.
  • Participate on judicial committees as directed.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree and three (3) years' experience in court procedures and processes; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

    Knowledge of legal proceedings, civil law, specialized legal terminology, court rules, court processes and procedures; scheduling, record keeping and tracking systems including alphabetical, numerical and chronological filing systems; general office policies, principles and practices; application of court rules and procedures.

    Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Able to apply effective interpersonal skills. Able to follow oral and written instruction. Skill in working with diverse populations with cultural sensitivity.

    Able to analyze, organize and prioritize work; adapt to changes in workload demands; multi-task and follow through. Able to conduct research on a specific work assignment. Able to apply problem solving and conflict resolution techniques. Skills in problem identification and resolution; working in a high-pressure environment; organizing work, workload planning and scheduling. Able to use personal computer and Microsoft Office programs. Able to learn specialized software applications.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Finalists must successfully pass a reference check and criminal background check. Criminal convictions are not automatically disqualifying.

    CLASSIFICATION: The Superior Court classification for this position is Civil Case Scheduling Technician III.
