Full Job Description

King County Fleet Services is looking for a dedicated Preventative Maintenance Tire Specialist to join our team!

The Preventative Maintenance Tire Specialist will be responsible for providing safe and efficient service of a wide variety of vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery, maintaining records and performing preventive maintenance procedures.

This position may work from a Field Lube Service Truck or at one of our Maintenance Facilities.

ABOUT FLEET SERVICES DIVISION

The Fleet Services Division manages King County’s portfolio of vehicles and equipment.

The team performs acquisition, maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of approximately 3,000 fleet assets for the County’s services associated with the Sheriff’s Office, Public Health, Roads, Parks, Wastewater, Water and Land Resources, and other agencies.

The division manages two maintenance shops which include robust storerooms of automotive parts, materials, and construction supplies as well as several technicians working in the field to support remote customer sites.

In addition, the Fleet Division is responsible for the disposition of the county’s personal property assets, which includes a surplus warehouse in Georgetown.

Disposal methods can include re-use within the county, donation to verified and approved non-profits, and sales through online portals or sealed/negotiated bids.

Requirements

Job Duties: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate skill and ability to:

  • Change, rotate, repair and balance tires on County vehicles and off-road equipment, excluding buses.
  • Perform road calls for tire servicing and equipment lube services.
  • Perform quality inspections on incoming tire stock.
  • Perform lubrication duties on machinery, including oil servicing, oil sampling, greasing, oil change, filter changes and oil flow rate adjustment.
  • Process oil samples for various lubrication and hydraulic systems for analysis, track and file.
  • Select appropriate lubricants for machinery.
  • Maintain multiple oil supply rooms and collection sites.
  • Develop and document procedures for lubrication functions.
  • Lubricate and winterize vehicles and equipment.
  • Research and document differences in machinery lubrication and filtration systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections on vehicles.
  • Respond to emergencies (i.e., ice, snow, flooding) for vehicles on road.
  • Open and close work orders; maintain records and logs on a computer as required.
  • Make recommendations for improvements and modifications to work processes.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Knowledge of/skill in tire repair processes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of tire safety characteristics.
  • Knowledge of general lubrication requirements.
  • Knowledge in the use of basic hand and air tools.
  • Experience providing services on a variety of vehicles, including light duty and heavy duty vehicles.
  • Experience providing lube services on heavy construction equipment.
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written).
  • Skill in driving different types of oversized vehicles.
  • Skill in distinguishing different types of oils and lubricants.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to have predictable and reliable attendance.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License required
  • Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License with Class Band air brake endorsement withing 6 months of employment.
  • Employment will be contingent on the success of a pre-employment physical examination.

UNION MEMBERSHIP: Local 117: Teamsters Local Union No. 117 -- Joint Units Agreement

WORK LOCATION: This position may be based at our Renton facility (155 Monroe Avenue NE, Renton, WA) or at our Georgetown facility (707 S Orcas Street, Seattle, WA).

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule for these positions is generally 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime-eligible. Alternative schedules may be required along with mandatory overtime.
