Job Description

Summary

This job involves teaching English classes to students who need extra help transitioning to college, creating and updating lesson plans, and supporting students through advising and retention efforts.

It also requires participating in college events, professional growth activities, and community outreach.

Full Job Description

Teach Transitional Studies English courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist with departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends or a combination.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE – The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.

INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT – The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.

STUDENT ADVISEMENT – The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.

COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICES – Participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.

Requirements

Baccalaureate degree in English, Secondary English, English Education, Language Arts, Literature, and demonstrated competence in the teaching discipline.

Qualifications

Master's degree in English, Language Arts, English Education, or Literature. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures. Teaching experience at a two-year college and/or teaching experience in adult education. Experience teaching with instructional technology, knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to implement innovative teaching strategies.
