This job involves handling complaints from inmates in a prison setting by investigating issues, interviewing people involved, and recommending solutions to resolve problems fairly and quickly.
It requires reviewing policies and rules to make decisions and managing the grievance process from start to finish.
A good fit would be someone with administrative experience, strong research skills, and a calm approach to working in a correctional environment.
Investigates grievances by conducting thorough and impartial inquiries of circumstances pertaining to grievances through interviews with inmates and staff.
Analyzes specific information obtained and prepares recommendations designed to resolve problems at the lowest possible level.
Reviews and researches SCDC policies, relevant/mandated statues, disciplinary tapes, and any documentation related to grievances.
Interprets rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to day-to-day operations and to the grievance procedures, accepts and forwards appeals to the central office, serves inmates with step 1 and step 2 grievance decisions and performs other duties as assigned.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and four (4) years of responsible clerical, secretarial or administrative experience preferably in a correctional or law enforcement setting.
A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
Required to have experience in personal computer, leadership, law enforcement/paralegal/research or investigations.
