Base salary range: $51,332 - $66,732

This job is for an IT specialist in the U.S. Department of Justice's Chicago office, where you'll help with computer systems, fix tech problems, and support users in a legal environment.

GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least one of the following conditions, as defined below: specialized experience or education.
Specialized Experience: I have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal service.
Qualifying experience demonstrates possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.
Specialized experience is defined as experience identifying and resolving problems, troubleshooting cause and providing recommendations for resolution; assisting with data recovery; providing user training on hardware, software, and internet application; and providing help desk support to users.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
This education must have been in one of the following fields or must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours on one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks: Computer Science, Information Science, Information Systems Management, or Technology Management.
GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least one of the following conditions, as defined below: specialized experience or education.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level and must demonstrate possession of each of the following basic competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.
Specialized experience is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to provide IT customer support services, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware/software and networked systems, and maintenance of internet servers and websites.
In addition, providing user training and assistance on a variety of applications, resolving complex IT issues, and management of web design and legal compliance.
Education: One of the following types of education: a PH.D or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
This education must have been in one of the following fields OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.

If selected for this position, you will serve as an Information Technology Specialist responsible for a variety of IT specialty areas which support the needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Northern District of Illinois.
Typical work assignments will include, but are not limited to: Assist customers and clients in identifying and describing IT requirements for business and legal applications.
Managing accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment.
Assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of network systems including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware.
