Summary

This entry-level economist role at the Federal Communications Commission involves analyzing economic data and policies related to the communications industry to help improve government efficiency.

This is a Recent Graduates position in the Pathways Program. Selected candidates will be placed/appointed at OEA/IAD or OEA/EAD, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Washington, DC.

THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL POSITIONS WITHIN 90 DAYS. RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE PAID.

Candidates must meet the BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS as outlined in SUBPART A below in addition to the REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS CRITERIA outlined in SUBPART B; 2.

SUBPART A-BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order to receive credit towards qualifications.

Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

If selected, an official transcript will be required prior to appointment.

Students who have graduated from an accredited college must submit unofficial or official transcripts at the time of application. The transcript must demonstrate the date that the degree was conferred.

education programs.

AND SUBPART B-REQUIRED QUALIFICATION CRITERIA Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

GS-12 EDUCATION: Ph.D.

or equivalent doctoral degree OR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as experience: 1. Conducting comprehensive economic research studies and analyses involving technical and economic aspects. 2.

Developing narrative, statistical, and/or graphical reports of research and analysis. 3. Conducting microeconomic analyses of market structure, conduct, and performance. 4.

Designing econometric models. 5. Reconciling conflicting datasets. OR A combination of both education and specialized experience.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

SME Review At the time of application you are required to take an external skills-based assessment which is based upon government-wide recognized competencies and consistent with OPM Merit Hiring Plan requirements and the Chance to Compete Act.

This position serves as a developmental professional Industry Economist performing a broad range of assignments involving formulating, planning and completing economic research, analyses, and related projects, and preparing reports to present findings and results.

Assignments involve working cooperatively with other economists as well as professional staff from other disciplines.
