This job involves reviewing and issuing permits for industrial wastewater discharges to protect South Carolina's waterways and public health, while working with industries and engineers to ensure compliance with environmental rules.

Join our Industrial Wastewater Permitting team in the Bureau of Water and apply your engineering expertise to protect public health and our state’s waterways.
Uses advanced knowledge and experience to manage the environmental impact of industrial wastewater and sludge by developing NPDES and land application (ND) permit conditions, and by reviewing engineering reports, plans, and specifications for treatment facilities.
What You’ll Do
Your engineering degree must be accredited by EAC/ABET, CEAB, and Programs Recognized in the ABET “Washington Accord” Listings or you must provide an approved equivalency letter from The South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing & Regulation ( LLR).
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Ability to:
Work independently and meet strict deadlines.
Analyze technical environmental issues.
Evaluate engineering submittals; develop permit requirements.
Exhibit good planning and have good oral and written communication skills.
Work with other DES staff to gather necessary input; and interact with the public and government officials at all levels.
Work with Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, and Power Point) software required.
Have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel for overnight in-state or out-of-state trips; field visits may be required.
