Full Job Description

You will serve as an Industrial Hygienist in the Occupational Safety and Health Division (Code 106.1) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Industrial Hygienist, ensuring adequate industrial health controls to eliminate or prevent occupational health hazards, for the safety, health, and comfort of shipyard workers.

Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include: responsibility for programs where workers are exposed to a wide variety of hazards including chemical, physical, biological; conducting industrial hygiene sampling using photoionization detectors, gas detectors, air sampling pumps, noise dosimetry, velocity meters, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation monitors, or other state of the art monitoring equipment.

  • You will be responsible for managing multiple Shipyard-wide industrial health programs.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring the Shipyard is in compliance with Federal, State, and Navy regulations.
  • You will assist in the development of training plans, participating as a subject matter expert.
  • You will investigate health problems and complaints among workers by conducting walkthroughs, surveys and investigations to resolve critical problems.
  • You will evaluate the adequacy of controls for health hazards in initial and final plans and specifications for facility construction, alteration and repair, as well as modification or relocation of processes.
