Job Description

Summary

This job is an entry-level role in a military processing center where you'll handle front-desk tasks like greeting visitors, answering phones, and managing records for people applying to join the armed forces.

You'll also use computers to prepare documents, update databases, and even fingerprint applicants for background checks.

It's a good fit for someone organized, comfortable with basic office work, and interested in supporting military recruitment, especially if you have some customer service or admin experience.

About the Position: The U.S.

Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) is a joint Department of Defense command responsible for processing applicants into five branches of military service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard).

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes : Utilizing computers for database management and/or word processing; Maintaining paper and electronic files; Reviewing and/or editing documents; AND Providing information to callers and visitors.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

-OR- Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

-OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Major Duties:

  • Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately.
  • Answer, screen, and forward incoming calls.
  • Administer pre-oath briefings to inform applicants regarding processing center procedures
  • Maintain office security by controlling access (i.e. issuing visitor badges, maintaining visitor logs, etc.) via the reception desk
  • Operate a variety of office automation equipment to prepare enlistment and other military personnel documents
  • Perform records management of electronic and paper applicant records
  • Utilize an automated system to fingerprint individuals in order to initiate background check.
