This job involves helping people apply for and qualify for government aid programs like food assistance, health coverage, and emergency help by interviewing them and managing their cases.
Workers review personal and financial details to decide eligibility, keep records updated, and connect clients to other support services.
It's a good fit for someone with a bachelor's degree or customer service experience who enjoys working directly with the public in a supportive role.
Under general supervision, perform at the full performance level in processing applications, ascertaining eligibility for, and overseeing a caseload for a variety of economic assistance programs including, but not limited to SNAP, various Medicaid programs, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers.
Schedule telephone and face-to-face interviews. Competently conduct personal interviews with clients regarding their personal, financial, and social information.
Determine eligibility for services, maintain an up-to-date client caseload, and refer clients to various supportive services and agencies when needed.
May obtain repayment from clients who have been issued benefits erroneously. Performs related work as required.
