The House Manager, works under the Fisher House Program, and provides temporary accommodations and support for families, support persons and Caregivers of Veterans and Active Duty Military receiving treatment at major military, and VA medical facilities.
The Housing Manager serves as supervisor of the Fisher House program reporting directly to the facility Deputy Director, at the Washington VA Medical Center.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/05/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Managing or assisting in managing one or more family housing projects, billeting facilities, or other accommodations such as transient or permanent individual and family living quarters; administering, supervising, or performing work involved in evaluation of housing management programs, maintaining operational maintenance and managerial control, procurement of services, and cost management and financial planning; developing and maintaining local policies and procedures.
Preferred Experience: At least 1 year of specialized experience in the following: Management and administration of hospitality or lodging operations.
Knowledge of hospitality operations, VA policies, concepts, procedures, and regulations related to the Fisher House Program.
Knowledge of basic principles and techniques pertaining to management, planning, scheduling and coordinating.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is principally sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work.
However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light books, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required. The physical demands in this position meets Level 8-1.
Work is generally sedentary; however, it requires a fair amount of standing, walking, walking up and down steps, and bending. The Housing Manager may be required to approximately lift 25-50 lbs.
At Level 8-2, the work requires some physical exertion involved in frequent onsite visits to project locations to conduct inspections of housing facilities, buildings, or grounds.
The work involves long periods of standing, walking over sometimes uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and bending, reaching, or similar activities.

Major Duties:
Some duties include, but are not limited to: Maintains financial, operational, and managerial control of the Fisher House.
Develops and nurtures relationships with private organizations, volunteers, and community groups which support Veterans and Fisher House guests.
Ensures full facility compliance with national program requirements.
Communicates effectively and builds relationships with facility, community, and national stakeholders to advance the local and national Fisher House program.
Communicates effectively and expresses the needs of Veterans and Fisher House guests with private organizations, volunteers, and community groups for support.
Manages control points and tracks General Post Funds, as well as requirements to meet the facility budget in concert with the facility Voluntary Service.
