Requirements

As a part-time Housing Inspector, you will inspect privately owned dwellings leased or intended for leasing under the Section 8 rent subsidy programs and any properties of additional housing programs assigned to the York Housing Authority.

By ensuring dwellings are structurally sound, functionally operative, and maintained in a customary, safe, and sanitary condition, you will help our residents have the chance to thrive!


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Scheduling and performing regular and special inspections for compliance with Housing Authority, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and local regulations and housing standards.
  • Verifying that housing and grounds meet established standards of safety and functionality for electrical, plumbing, heating, and ventilating systems, and other normal housing accommodation standards.
  • Preparing and submitting inspection reports to identify the nature and scope of the conditions found, the action needed to resolve unsatisfactory conditions, and, if appropriate, the party responsible for the condition or for the corrections.
  • Communicating with property owners and tenants about anything needed to effectively complete inspections and meet requirements.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment
  • Work hours are typically 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Tuesday - Thursday, with 30-minute lunch. Scheduling of weekly hours is flexible.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in the area of building structure or maintenance inspection; or
  • One year of building or trades experience which included work in the area of cost estimation; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which afforded the applicant the above required knowledges, skills, and abilities.


Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within York County. If no eligible candidates who live within York County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
