Full Job Description

Serves as a Crew Leader for a crew of maintenance workers and assumes foreman’s duties and responsibilities during his or her absence. Operates and maintains equipment used during driveway paving operations and hauling asphalt from plant (dump truck, asphalt kettle, roller, power broom, etc. ) throughout Colleton County. Operates and maintains heavy motorized equipment (backhoe, lowboy truck tractor, front-end loader, motor graders, etc.) during the installation of driveways; sideline and cross line pipes for storm water drainage and access to property, constructing and repairing drainage structures, cleaning ditches. Sets up traffic control according to SCMUTCD Standards to warn motorist of road work ahead. Performs manual labor such as: washout, patching potholes, shoulder operation, clearing right-of-ways, litter and debris, dead animal, A1 treatment and paving operations and repairing bridges. Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as HMMS and the maintenance requests, complaints forms, job hazardous assessment, and preventative maintenance. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance ( small tractor mower for maintaining section shed) chain saws, prunner, weed eater, hedger, bush axes, tamp, lute board and other hand tools, etc. Assists and coordinates emergency operations when crew is in an " On-call" status after hours, weekends, and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice or hazardous road conditions and accidents. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
