This job is for a crew leader in highway maintenance, where you'll operate heavy equipment like loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and skid steers to handle tasks such as clearing ditches, installing pipes, and hauling materials for road repairs.
You'll step in as foreman when needed, respond to emergencies outside regular hours, and work in tough weather conditions, sometimes on long shifts.
It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in construction or maintenance who is physically fit, reliable, and comfortable with machinery and outdoor work.
Serves as Crew Leader. Operates combination front-end loader and backhoe to clean out drainage ditches and to install sideline and cross line pipe.
Operates tandem dump truck In hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, dirt, coquina, etc.
Operates skid steer in cutter & milling operations when needed in various maintenance operations.
Assumes duties as a Crew Foreman during foreman's absence in performing various maintenance assignments.
Performs on-call services for after hour emergencies and performs duties during inclement weather events. May be required to work 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
