Full Job Description
Operates slope mower with a Buzz Bar attachment in limbing and sloping operations on highway right-of-ways. Operates tandem dump truck in hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, dirt, limestone, debris, etc., trailer for hauling equipment to various job sites. Operates combination front-end loader and backhoe to clean out drainage ditches and to install sideline, cross line pipe and to remove fallen trees "on-call" during normal and after hours. Operates and maintains hand/electric and gas power tools in various maintenance operations such as: chain saw in cutting trees on right-of-way, weed eater, shovel, rake, tamp, lute board, wrenches, and wood chipper used in chipping tree limbs/debris and underbrush from right-of-ways, bridges and overpasses. Performs, conducts and documents pre-operation preventive maintenance on vehicle/equipment inspection as outlined in equipment specifications. Performs other related maintenance duties using manual labor such as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repair to bridge, paving driveways, litter control, dead animal, A-1 treatment, and laying sideline pipes. Set up traffic control according to SCMUTCD Standards to warn motorist of road work ahead. Operates and assists with emergency operations such as snow and ice, flooding, hurricanes, etc. using various pieces of equipment. Subject to be called out after normal working hours to handle "on-call". Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
