Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job involves helping manage Pennsylvania's forests by preventing and fighting wildfires, collecting data in the outdoors, and supporting conservation efforts for timber, wildlife, and recreation areas.

It's a hands-on role in a forest district, working with teams and partners to protect natural resources.

Requirements

As a Forest Technician, your main responsibility will involve supporting the management of our natural resources, focusing on wildfire prevention and suppression. You will engage in various activities related to timber, wildlife, recreation, watershed, and conservation, while also performing forest assessments and gathering field data through GPS and GIS technology. Furthermore, you will work in collaboration with service foresters, external agencies, and partners to enhance initiatives within the Tuscarora Forest District.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026, through November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 5 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.


Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
