Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job involves operating trucks and heavy machinery to maintain roads, trails, and facilities in a Pennsylvania state forest district.

You'll work outdoors mostly, supporting forestry projects from spring through fall, with a standard daytime schedule.

Requirements

In this position, you will engage in specialized tasks aimed at preserving the infrastructure of the Forest District while providing essential support to the Forest Maintenance Supervisor, District Managers, and fellow team members. Your contributions will be vital in achieving the objectives set forth by the DCNR Bureau of Forestry and the Buchanan State Forest. Key responsibilities will include the operation and upkeep of trucks, as well as light to medium construction and maintenance equipment, with a gross vehicle weight capacity of up to 32,000 pounds. Your expertise will ensure that the equipment remains in optimal condition, facilitating the efficient execution of various forestry projects and maintenance activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits.

The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Special Requirements:
    • You must be in possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.


    Conditions of Employment:
    • This position requires that employees possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
