Full Job Description

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is on the searching for a motivated Forest Technician to join the Northcentral Region of our Forest Management Division. This position is responsible for providing technical support to staff in the daily operations of state game lands, with a primary focus on habitat management initiatives that promote young forest development within designated wildlife management units across the region. Requirements

As a Forest Technician, you will be tasked with surveying and setting the boundaries of timber sales, herbicide areas, and other forest habitat treatments following instructions and directions provided by the forester.

Work also involves examining trees, marking timber, and conducting volume computations.

You will have the opportunity to assist foresters in the collection of field data as well as application of herbicides for forest habitat management and maintenance.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Entering data collected by foresters into appropriate computer programs
  • Conducting State Game Lands stand examinations
  • Conducting surveys and preparing forest habitat type maps
  • Maintaining tools and equipment used in forest habitat management activities


The position will be headquartered at the Tioga County Habitat Management Crew headquarters office. The focal management area will be in the counties of Tioga, Potter, Lycoming, and McKean, but work will cover all of the Northcentral Region.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
