Summary

Requirements

As a Forester, you will participate in our Treatment Monitoring program to measure the outcomes of habitat treatment objectives across the entire State Game Land system.

This involves working out of our Howard Nursery in Centre County and frequent overnight travel depending on the location of field sites.

Your responsibilities will include identifying trees, shrubs, vines, and other forest vegetation, as well as using a compass, GPS, and other related equipment to identify ground features and relate them to maps.

After collecting habitat data, you will be expected to prepare appropriate reports.


You will also have the chance to assist in the management of data collected during field assessments and the development, planning, and implementation of strategies to effectively complete Treatment Monitoring projects.

While most work is completed independently, you will also collaborate with Regional Forestry staff and Forest Program Specialists as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Three year limited-term, full-time employment. 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work involves frequent overnight travel depending on the location of field sites.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
  • A master’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.


Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid PA non- commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
