Job Description

Summary

This job involves hands-on outdoor work maintaining state forest roads, trails, buildings, and grounds in Pennsylvania's Susquehannock State Forest, including using tools for construction and repairs, and helping fight wildfires when needed.

Requirements

In this role, you will perform semi-skilled manual work involving a variety of tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of state forest roads, buildings, trails, grounds, and other facilities and land-based resources within an assigned area of the Susquehannock State Forest. Duties include operating tools such as hand, power, shop, carpentry, and mechanic tools to perform basic construction, maintenance, and repair projects. Additionally, you will respond to fire calls and fight wildfires when needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits.

The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch and 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
    • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


    Condition of Employment:

    • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
