The Department of Corrections is seeking a dynamic Corrections Masonry Trade Instructor to join our technical education team.

In this vital role, you will provide hands-on instruction and on-the-job training to inmates who are interested in pursuing vocational skills in masonry at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest.

Requirements

In this position, you will instruct inmates in the principles, techniques, and procedures of the masonry trade through hands-on demonstration, detailed explanation, and close supervision during training and assigned projects.

Responsibilities include teaching masonry concepts using diagrams, charts, illustrations, manuals, and blueprints to support learning and skill development.

You will demonstrate and explain the proper use of materials, methods, and tools involved in the installation, construction, repair, inspection, and maintenance of masonry structures and surfaces, including walls, floors, doors, partitions, steps, foundations, ramps, walkways, roads, curbs, chimneys, and storm drains.

Additionally, you will monitor and evaluate work in progress and completed projects to ensure compliance with established masonry trade standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in laying brick, blocks, and other types of building materials, and binding with mortar to construct or repair walls; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the masonry trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the masonry trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
