About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency (DHA), Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, Resource Management and requires understanding of accounting systems, policies/procedures to examine, verify, maintain and reconcile accounting data.

Incumbent works under closer supervision and guidance than the target grade based on satisfactory performance, supervisory certification and meeting qualification requirements.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Utilize basic understanding of accounting or pay/time & attendance systems, standard accounting codes, classifications and terminology to apply the various accounting methods and techniques to examine, verify, maintain and reconcile accounts and accounting data, 2) Research administrative rules, regulations and procedures, 3) Extract data from records for the preparation of reports, and 4) Assisting with budget codes and execution.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Examines, verifies, maintains and reconciles accounts and accounting data in order to prepare and analyze reports in accordance with established accounting systems, policies and procedures.
  • Applies various accounting methods and techniques using standard accounting codes, classification and terminology.
  • Maintain ledgers and compiles, consolidates, checks and arranges funding in support of budget analysis and administration technician work.
  • Adheres to the organization’s application of administrative rules, regulations and procedures associated with records in order to report, process and track budgetary transactions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the validity of cash items , the acceptability of required supporting documents and cash processing procedures at the organization in accordance to established policies and procedures.
  • Determine pay, payroll records maintenance and completion of reports that pertains to civilian employees.
