One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-13) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Providing expert-level financial management consulting services, management advice, and project management assistance to supported customers and in the resolution of complex issues related to the mission.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-13 or higher grade in Federal Service.

** The effective date of your SF-50 must reflect that you will meet the 52-week time in grade requirement within 30 days of the announcement closing.

** You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as the Executive Assistant to a Senior Executive Service (SES) level Director, with responsibility for analyzing and advising on a variety of financial policies and procedures and resolving and executing a wide variety of actions.
  • Provides executive-level support in an unusually demanding, fast-paced and highly visible environment characterized by critical and time-sensitive concerns facing the Agency.
  • Prepares staff papers to support taskings given by the Director and provides policy interpretations and functional recommendations to the Director on diverse financial management issues.
  • Serves as a technical expert in reviewing and addressing issues impacting planning, implementation, and evaluation of DFAS-wide financial management programs.
  • Monitors major projects; reviews policies and directives for effective and timely accomplishment of such projects; and reviews and recommends approval or disapproval of implementation plans developed by operating officials.
