Job Description

Summary

This role involves analyzing financial data, ensuring compliance with regulations, and improving accounting processes for the Department of Defense's finance service.

The analyst will review reports, reconcile documents, and work with systems to support accurate financial management.

To be hired at the GS-09 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as experience such as researching and interpreting financial regulations, policies and laws to provide recommendations to managers; analyzing and evaluating reports and data from financial systems; and/or researching and interpreting financial policies and laws to resolve financial issues.

To be hired at the GS-11 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-09) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as experience such as analyzing financial and accounting operations to recommend process improvements; monitoring and evaluating financial systems to identify weaknesses and ensure compliance; and/or analyzing the impact of applicable laws and regulations on an organization's financial policies, operations and systems.

GS-09 Time-in-Grade: Current federal employees who have held a GS-07 position or higher in the preceding 52 weeks on a permanent competitive appointment may be considered.

GS-11 Time-in-Grade: Current federal employees who have held a GS-09 position or higher in the preceding 52 weeks on a permanent competitive appointment may be considered.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Conducts detailed analyses and provides uniform and comprehensive methods for collection and presentation of financial and statistical data.
  • Performs the application of accounting and finance principles, theories, concepts, and practices to ensure that financial management and accounting systems produce accurate results and meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluates finance and accounting services and processes to recommend new processes.
  • Reconciles a variety of reports, vouchers, and supporting financial documents, makes input to various automated systems as necessary and assists with the resolution of problems.
  • Works with computer specialists to develop, implement, and modify accounting and financial management systems to meet the organizational needs.
