Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an expert analyst for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, where you'll review budgets, analyze financial impacts on health programs, and advise leaders on money-related decisions to keep national programs running smoothly.

Full Job Description

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), CMS Global Hiring.

As a Financial Management Specialist, GS-0501-13, you will act as an expert financial management analyst, advising on matters of financial issues affecting national programs within the assigned mission area.

In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: Analyzing financial proposals, budgets or reports to ensure adherence to requirements; AND Applying regulations of financial management to recommend or implement financial policies; AND Preparing financial reports, briefings, or cost estimates for review by stakeholders.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.

  • Analyze the potential effects of financial actions on program viability and attainment of program objectives.
  • Advise management on ramifications of financial policy and programmatic adjustments on costs and financial issues.
  • Conduct financial analyses for programs within the organization.
  • Prepare financial materials as requested by the Director or other senior staff.
  • Analyze specific fiscal areas of concern and recommend procedures and methods for change.
