Full Job Description

**OPEN TO CURRENT UDOT EMPLOYEES ONLY**

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional to join our Complex Comptroller’s Office. As a Financial Analyst III, you will play a critical role in ensuring the fiscal integrity of the department by overseeing complex financial transactions, maintaining compliance with state policies, and supporting year-end reporting efforts.

Principle Duties

In this role, you will be responsible for high-level financial oversight and operational support, including:

  • Audit & Compliance: Performing quarterly transaction audits to ensure payment accuracy and strict adherence to State of Utah policies.

  • Operational Reconciliations: Running and reconciling daily interface files and managing interagency transaction approvals.

  • Contract Management: Partnering with Project Managers, Consultants, and Contractors to manage contract lifecycles and facilitate the close-out of completed projects.

  • Budgetary Controls: Creating and modifying project encumbrances and approving payable documents.

  • GASB Reporting: Supporting year-end GASB efforts, specifically compiling comprehensive expense reports for capital assets.

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have at least five (5) years of related professional experience reconciling, analyzing, and budgeting financial data. Completed higher education coursework in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.


Preferences
Preference may be given to candidates who possess at least one of the following:
  • Current UDOT employees
  • Direct experience with UDOT payables processing or contract management.
  • Proficiency in Vantage or other accounting software.
  • A working knowledge of current State of Utah financial policies and procedures.

  • Work Environment
    • Working Conditions: This position primarily involves work in a typical, climate-controlled office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Standard office safety practices (e.g., safe use of equipment, observing fire regulations) apply.
    • Physical Requirements: The work is largely sedentary (sitting comfortably to perform work). However, the role may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving a vehicle.
  • Note: Employee may be reassigned to different locations based on the needs of the Region Director or Group Leader.
