Full Job Description



The Department of Government Operations Finance team is currently hiring for a Financial Analyst III position to support Division of Technology Services (DTS). The candidate chosen will work cross functionally with other departments including Hosting, Network, Desktop, and Operations, to help plan and report business expenses, execute strategy, assess performance, as well as provide insights and analytics for decision making across the Division.


This position will focus on budgets, forecasts, and financial monitoring.

Financial analysts leverage strong accounting and compliance backgrounds to explore historical financial data, predict future results and drive process and policy improvements.


This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office (2 days a week required in office and any mandatory in office meetings) and remote work days (work must be performed in Utah). Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason. The office is located at the Taylorsville State Office Building at 4315 S 2700 W Taylorsville, Utah.

Primary Duties:

Analyzing current and past financial data and performanceProviding financial models and forecastingEvaluating current capital expenditures and depreciationIdentifying trends in financial performance and providing recommendations for improvementAssist with the analyzing of actual results against plan and forecast and prepare analysis as requiredCoordinating with other members of the finance team to review financial information and forecastsDetailed analysis, with understanding of key drivers, to forecast cost trendsDevelop a detailed understanding of business processes, looking for both control gaps and opportunities to gain process efficiency.Preparing reports and projections based on analysisIllustrating financial trends with charts and graphsAd-Hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects as requiredProvide oversight and mentorship as needed Qualifications Detail oriented, with unquestionable integrity and credibility.Ability to “connect the dots” for others across multiple data points, make connections upstream/downstream that may not be easily noticeable.Skilled in using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).Presenting creative and logical solutions to identified problems.Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including documentation of findings and recommendations.Drives solid understanding of cost structure/drivers by division/BU and partners with the ops leadership team to drive productivity.Demonstrates strong leadership, analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.Communicates and demonstrates judgment, tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal customers within a matrix organization.Possesses initiative, enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, a positive attitude and ability to perform as a team player.Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of management.Highly motivated and proactive, with strong organizational and project management skills to multitask and manage workload to timely completion.Works independently, meets deadlines.
