Summary

This summer internship with the South Carolina Department of Transportation offers hands-on experience in accounting, financial planning, and procurement for college students.

Full Job Description

**This posting will be used to fill multiple summer internship positions in Accounting, Financial Planning, and Procurement areas. **

Accounting:

  • Accounts Receivable: Assists in project reimbursement billing and related reconciliations. Assist in recording revenue to the general ledger and related reconciliations. Assists in the processing of receipts and the application to outstanding customer accounts.
  • Accounts Payable: Assists in the processing of vendor invoice for payment processing. Reconciles and prepares utility payments for processing. Reconcile general ledger coding on invoices for analyst.
  • Accounting: Assists in the reconciliation of general ledger account. Assists in the preparation of schedules for the annual audit. Reviews and reconciles projects for financial closure.

    Recommended capitalization of infrastructure. Assists with the preparation of Federal reimbursed requests based on eligible project expenditures.

    May assist with the yearly inventory of capital assets to ensure the general ledger correctly reflects all capital asset activity, such as sales, disposals, transfers and purchases.

  • Contract Assurance: Assists with records and data management. Assists with third-party contractor reviews. Assists with subrecipient monitoring and reviews.

Financial Planning:

  • Assists with the review and processing of project related invoices, ensuring charge codes and funding has been verified.
  • Assists with the distribution of project related invoices, and routing of invoices to correct Project Fund Management reviewer to ensure timely processing.
  • Assists with the organization of financial agreements to confirm receipt of payment and ensures financial related documents are filed correctly in database.
  • Assists Business Analytics Team in gathering data and preparing reports which directly supports Departmental Directive 48 and federal requirements.
  • Coordinates financial components of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) and ensures programs and project budgets are aligned with the Consolidated Funding Plan. Coordinates with STIP Financial Manager to update project and program budgets.
Procurement:

  • Assists and observes selection meetings, negotiation meetings, bid openings, and year end closing processes.
  • Ensures agency specific online applications (including P2S and Project Wise) and drives contain current and accurate professional service contracts’ information, including executed agreements, record of negotiations and selection data.

    Assists with entering contract data into accepted Agency data repositories.

  • Categorizes closed project files and prepare associated documentation for records retention or proper disposal.
  • Creates files for Procurement’s training and updates records in HR system.

Pay Rate is between $17.00 - $23.00/per hour depending on qualifications.


Requirements
