Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping families in West Virginia determine if they qualify for financial assistance programs like TANF, conducting interviews to assess their needs, and connecting them to services that promote self-sufficiency and employment.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience on a year-for-year basis
  • One year of paid experience in interviewing clients or the public and evaluating data against standards
  • Experience helping troubled individuals or families toward social development
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for required travel
  • Ability to process applications, conduct interviews (phone and in-person), and complete assessments accurately
  • Knowledge of policies from the Office of Family Assistance
  • Successful completion of a one-year probationary period

Monongalia

Under general supervision, perform work at the full-performance level by determining eligibility for all TANF and economic service programs accurately and efficiently. Assist clients in becoming self-sufficient via department services and community programs. Complete assessments and activity placements. Must process applications and conduct telephone and face-to-face interviews within program requirements. Analyze and interpret aptitude test results to direct the development of employment goals for applicants. Make referrals to appropriate agencies when necessary. Work must adhere to policies outlines by the Office of Family Assistance. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license and must have access to transportation for required travel. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Training: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Substitution: Any combination of college training and/or full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in interviewing clients, customers or the public and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines, or in a field of work where experience has been gained in helping troubled individuals and/or families toward normal social development may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in interviewing clients, customers or the public and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines, or in a field of work where experience has been gained in helping troubled individuals and/or families toward normal social development.

Additional Information

Probationary period of 1 yr.
