Parks is hiring Facility Maintenance Worker I – Parks & Fairgrounds employee.

If you are hardworking, team oriented, reliable, and, customer service driven, this full time position is a great opportunity!

You will be assigned to a crew performing a variety of tasks providing professional customer service and support for year-round schedule of events at the Evergreen State Fair Park.

This position will work a swing shift Wed-Sun 2:30pm – 11:00pm. This position will also be required to work a rotating schedule in support of the annual Evergreen State Fair.

Management reserves the right to adjust schedules as needed to support events and staffing needs.

Your strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to provide excellent customer service to the public will make you successful in this role.

Candidates should be comfortable working independently, outside, operating equipment, and providing professional customer service.

Must be willing to work non-traditional schedule to include swing shift and weekends. You must have a valid State of Washington Driver's License. Duties assigned will include:

  • Event setup, turnover, and customer support.
  • Grounds and facility preparation and cleaning for and during scheduled events.
  • Building maintenance and repairs, construction, carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of vehicles and construction equipment such as, pick-up trucks with and without trailers, forklift, boom-lifts, light duty tractors, loaders.
  • Snohomish County ambassador.

Requirements

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment such as single axle trucks and trailers, forklifts, and operates tractors to perform surface maintenance, including dragging equestrian arenas. Picks up and delivers equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required.
  2. Performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment by checking fluid levels, lubricating, and adjusting equipment as necessary. Track hours of equipment usage and report when approaching maintenance intervals.
  3. Performs a variety of routine grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming lawns, watering and weeding flower beds, raking, pick and shovel work, and using a variety of small power tools.

    May perform pesticide application under the license of a senior-level facilities maintenance worker.

  4. Performs a variety of specialized ballfield maintenance tasks such as grooming, marking, etc.
  5. Performs a variety of routine cleaning tasks such as cleaning and stocking restrooms, cleaning floors, and setting up facilities for a variety of meetings and events, clean up after meetings and events, and garbage and litter pickup. 
  6. Paints a variety of interior and exterior building surfaces, fixtures, and furniture; prepares surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, washing, and filling as necessary; mixes paints, stains, varnishes, epoxies, and other protective coating as required; applies paint or other protective coatings to the surface being finished using brushes, rollers, and/or spray-painting equipment.
  7. Fills out records and reports as necessary.
  8. Supports the annual fair at the Evergreen State Fair Park, working days before, during, and after to support the event.

STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES

  1. May assist in a variety of different building and construction trades and may be asked to perform basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance work; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job-related tests. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SEASONAL
High school diploma or GED required, previous experience in grounds and parks maintenance is desired, OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card within one (1) year of employment.
  • A written and practical field test may be required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
The work involves a variety of manual labor tasks requiring some strenuous physical effort, such as lifting objects weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.

SUPERVISION
Employees report to Facility Lead worker or follow the direction of a senior level facilities maintenance worker as assigned. The work is performed under general supervision and may be spot checked to ensure timely completion and compliance with instructions, procedures, and standards. Specific instructions are given for unusual or nonroutine tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather at work sites throughout the county. The work may involve working at considerable heights.. Employees are exposed to a variety of hazards such as working near traffic, around heavy equip­ment, and are exposed to dust fumes, hazardous chemicals and inclement weather.
Employees are subject to call out to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to ensure the safety of the public or en­sure the integrity of department owned property, shift work may be required of some positions.
