Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an environmental engineer at a U.S.

Marine Corps base in Japan, focusing on ensuring compliance with rules for drinking water, wastewater, and pollution control through studies, sampling, and project management.

You'll guide teams on environmental checks and handle contracts for testing water, soil, and sediment.

It's a good fit for someone with engineering experience in environmental compliance who is comfortable with overseas assignments and limited medical access.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field meeting Basic Requirements for professional engineering positions (per OPM standards)
  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent, including developing studies and projects for drinking water and wastewater compliance
  • For GS-12: Additional year at GS-11 level or equivalent, including technical guidance on sampling water, soil, and sediment
  • Experience providing technical assistance and guidance on environmental analyses and reviews
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations for point/non-point discharges, water treatment, and pollution control
  • Ability to manage projects, develop Statements of Work, and oversee contracts for environmental services
  • Willingness to work in Japan with limited access to medical and dental care

GS-11 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

  • You will provide guidance on environmental analyses and environmental reviews and provide technical assistance for projects in other environmental areas as required.
  • You will provide technical guidance to the camp environmental coordinators to assist them with methods required to sample water, soil, and sediment.
  • You will evaluate point and non-point discharges from all MCB Camp Butler and MCAS Futenma installations for compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • You will evaluate drinking water treatment and distribution facilities for compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • You will provide guidance and technical assistance and manage and execute projects and studies required to correct actual or potential water pollution control violations.
  • You will conduct the water sampling program for MCB Camp Butler and MCAS Futenma. This includes developing Statements of Work and other documents required in the solicitation of contracts.
  • You will work with contracting agencies in obtaining contract services, and overseeing the performance of contracts.
