Job Description

Summary

This job involves working with the Indian Health Service to help plan, build, and inspect water, wastewater, and waste facilities in partnership with American Indian Tribes, often in diverse and remote areas.

You'll use tools to survey land, check construction progress, estimate costs, and ensure everything meets safety and environmental rules.

It's a great fit for someone with hands-on technical experience in engineering or construction who enjoys fieldwork and making a real difference in community health.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-8 level, including surveying, drafting, construction inspection, cost estimating, and project management
  • OR two years of graduate education or a master's degree in engineering, construction, or industrial technology
  • OR a combination of specialized experience and relevant education that meets 100% of qualifications
  • Familiarity with precision surveying equipment and field note-taking to develop plans
  • Ability to perform construction inspections for water supply systems and ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations
  • Skill in recognizing errors or deficiencies in technical data
  • For federal employees: One year of service at the next lower grade level (Time-In-Grade requirement, unless under Excepted Service)

OR Completion of two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician such as, engineering, construction or industrial technology.

OR A combination of specialized experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). Major Duties:
