Full Job Description

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Electrician. The Electrician will function in Engineering Service.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE:: A specific length of training and experience is required.

You must show evidence you possess a Journeymen level Electrician card, have completed an Electrician apprenticeship program, or be able to show 8 years of verifiable experience as an Electrician within your resume of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Electric Drawings Electrical Equipment Technical Practices Technical Practices (Electrical Electronic) Troubleshooting (Electrical) Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Without more than normal supervision Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Major Duties:

The Electrician duties include, but are not limited to: Troubleshooting, loading and testing new electrical/electronic equipment.

Repairing electronic/electrical segments of air conditioning and ventilating systems, communication systems, fire alarm systems, emergency power plants and motors and controls.

Understanding various gauges, sizes and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers and other electrical devices.

Arranging and installing wires to ensure safe operation of systems and equipment worked on. Understanding mathematics to include arithmetic and algebra.

Using test instruments, recording devices, meters, ladders, scaffolds, lifting devices, rigging and all hand/power tools pertinent to the electrical trade safely.

Reading blueprints, sketches, building plans, engineering drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams accurately to plan and lay out routing.

Referring to and following technical guides and instruction manuals on new or existing equipment. Developing proper and cost-effective solutions to non-routine repair and construction tasks.

Ability to use and maintain handheld and power operated equipment to perform necessary electrician takings. Have a journeymen electrician knowledge in National Electrician Code, NEC.

This position requires possession of a current, valid, state issued driver license.

Work Schedule: M-F 11:00 pm to 7:30 am Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD94459A Physical Requirements: At this grade make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places.

This requires the electrician to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds).

Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms.
