Full Job Description

Minimum Special Hiring Rate: $37,862.00

Under general supervision, performs experienced journey level work maintaining, inspecting, repairing, ordering, and installing electrical components, parts and equipment.

The electrician completes all work in a safe, secure, and timely manner and in compliance with applicable code and trade practices.

Inspects and remain alert for electrical dangers and code violations, which if discovered will be reported to the Buildings and Ground Manger.

Ensures completion of preventive maintenance schedules and ensures all related log and reports are properly completed and submitted.

May perform additional duties as assigned by the Buildings and Ground Manger and/or supervisor. Other duties as needed and assist in security post as needed.

Fayette, Clay, Nicholas and Kanawha Counties

In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.

Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088).

  • Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.

  • If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.

    Qualifications

    Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.

    Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in electrical work.
    Substitution: Successful completion of two years vocational school training may be substituted for the required experience OR successful completion of the journey level electrician's examination administered by the State Fire Marshal.

    Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
