Summary

This job involves repairing and maintaining electrical equipment and devices at a U.S.

Army depot in rural Northern California, including testing, troubleshooting, and installing components to keep systems running smoothly.

About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA.

The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.

Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) &Major Range & Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrical Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform common duties of repairing electrical devices and equipment.

I can utilize test equipment to diagnose malfunctions in electrical devices and equipment; and replace faulty components in electrical devices and equipment.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Incumbents regularly stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Constant kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping and walking are required.

Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and in close quarters. Frequently lift and move equipment, components, or material weighing up to 45 pounds.

Heavier items are lifted with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Incumbent may climb in, on, and under vehicles and other large mechanized equipment.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, camp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.

Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May be subject to exposure of hazardous material.

May require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, hard hats, gloves, masks, etc. Steel toed shoes are always required. Major Duties:

  • Perform maintenance, repair, installation, and operational testing of a variety of complete solid state type equipment.
  • Test, troubleshoot, modify, repair, and overhaul a variety of complex electrical devices.
  • Build and/or rebuild wiring harnesses.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and overhaul equipment.
  • Perform operational checks and tests to insure proper operation of the system.
  • Lay out work in accordance with blueprints, sketches, technical manuals, and installs rigid conduit, electric metallic tubing, nonmetallic cable and other items.
  • Perform connection tapping on system when situations and guides require such action.
