DSHS OHBH Security Guard 2

Apply to join our team at Olympic Heritage Behavioral Health facility in Tukwila! We are hiring a permanent Security Guard 2.

We are hiring innovative, empathetic, dedicated professionals ready to join our team for a new, cutting-edge career move. Our Patients and Staff need hope, compassion, and patience as we build bridges of trust and collaboration through consulting, teaching, and modeling. While this consultant concept was brought to life over 50 yrs. ago, it has been re-enlivened and applied to the state hospital model of care.

Our staff members provide direct care, specialized services, and evidence-based individual/group therapies to adults with severe psychiatric conditions. Here is your opportunity to use your empathic engagement skills to be part of a robust and compassionate team that promotes recovery principles and develops therapeutic relationships with our staff and patients.

Our services provide comprehensive assessment and detailed recommendations to the respective treatment teams. These will include specific psychopharmacologic, medical, behavioral, and other evidence-based interventions and the relevant staff education and training to facilitate their implementations.

King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

The schedule for this position is a swing shift: Thursday - Monday 2:00PM - 10:30PM with Tuesday and Wednesday OFF.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Patrol campus in vehicle and on foot, provide protection for hospital staff, patients, visitors, and property
  • Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time, may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); ability to lift 50 pounds, ability to walk 90% of the workday; ability to stoop and stretch occasionally; ability to operate all company vehicles
  • Mobility to climb stairs on a routine basis
  • Must be able to stand for longer than 8 hours
  • Intervene and de-escalate in uncertain/crises
  • Provide security presence, walk-throughs, and safety checks on the wards
  • Assist in gathering evidence
  • Act as liaison between emergency responders and the Facility leadership; gather information for Law Enforcement, identify witnesses, and obtain initial statements
  • Confiscate and secure contraband, and write reports
  • Operate a camera, computer, copier/scanner, and other provided software to complete Security Activity Reports and email; operate a telephone, personal alarms, and metal detectors
  • Basic report writing techniques; use and operation of two-way radio and communicating effectively with guests and patrons of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Respond to fire, smoke, intrusion, and burglar alarms
  • Responds to emergency codes throughout the facility
  • Ensure accountability of equipment, keys, I.D badges, and other controlled items
  • Assist in providing on-the-job training and orientation for newly hired Security Guards
Who should apply:
Applicants with a valid driver's license, High school diploma/GED, and one of the following:

  • One year of experience as a Security Guard 1

OR
  • Two years of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
OR
  • A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission, and one year of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
OR
  • A certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program, and one year of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
