Join our team as a Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner at Behavioral Health and Treatment Center- Steilacoom Unit located in Lakewood, WA.

We are seeking a Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) who is deeply committed to serving individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions.

This position provides psychiatric treatment and care to residents of the Competency Restoration Program, Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) and reports to the Lead Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.

As a Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, you will use your empathic engagement skills to be part of a robust and compassionate team that promotes recovery principles and develops therapeutic relationships with our staff and residents.

Your primary responsibility will involve providing psychiatric care and treatment to the residents at Steilacoom Unit


Shift: This is a dayshift opportunity Monday-Friday (9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

Some of what you will do

  • Provide consultation, medication evaluation, and oversight to a range of people experiencing behavioral health issues.
  • Diagnose and treat acute behavioral health conditions or illnesses; prescribe medication and monitor medication regime.
  • Coordinate and integrate multidisciplinary services for patients, collaborating with medical physicians, social workers, nurses, and behavioral health specialists to ensure the patient's treatment plan is effective for each person.
  • Deliver patient care, conduct status evaluations and assessments, and create diagnostic formulation.
  • Monitor health care issues, consult with medical physicians, and refer for specialized medical care as needed.
  • Testify in court hearings when requested by court

Who should apply

  • A professional with a license or is eligible to obtain a Washington State license to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), or WA State issued temporary permit.
  • Advanced knowledge and clinical experience in behavioral health diagnosis and treatment.
  • Patient-centered communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently to assess patient health and determine diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications.


In addition, this position requires:
Active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certification to prescribe controlled substances
National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
PMHNP with prescriptive authority
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification


Preferred/Desired:
• Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing
• Ability to work within a team, and to resolve conflicts or de-escalate in a calm, non-threatening manner.

• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with management, colleagues, residents, and the public.
• Prior psychiatric experience is preferred
