Pierce County is looking for a dedicated Director of Economic Development who has:
  • Deep knowledge of economic development strategies, business and trade activities, public sector policy, and regional growth planning.
  • Skilled in leading collaborative partnerships across jurisdictions, industry groups, workforce organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Experienced in managing business development programs, loan funds, tourism resources, and arts initiatives within a public sector environment.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex economic issues, develop long range strategies, and present actionable recommendations to executive leadership and governing bodies.
  • Proficient in budget development, regulatory interpretation, and policy implementation that supports sustainable economic growth.

Tourism and Arts: Economic Development handles tourism funding, supports the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee and Tourism Promotion Area Commission, and oversees the County’s arts programs, including the Arts Commission, grant funding, and the 1 Percent for the Arts program.

Qualifications

Additional and comparable education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position may substitute on a year for year basis.

  • Six years of directly related supervisory experience required.
  • Extensive administrative experience in the following areas: economic development, business and trade
  • activities or related other areas commensurate with the duties of the position.
  • Experience in managing economic development strategies and collaborative efforts to develop
  • economic growth.
  • Sufficient knowledge of long-term planning and policy development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, economics or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in public or business administration preferred.
