Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping process digital evidence from online platforms for criminal cases in a prosecutor's office, including uploading files, using specialized tools, and supporting discovery processes.

Internal Applicants Only
This position is open only to current employees of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Applicants must serve and pass their six-month probation period in their current position in order to be eligible to apply.

Salary: Range 49 - $37.97 (step one) - $48.13 (step ten) *


Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, our core business hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm.; an alternative schedule is subject to supervisor’s approval.


Work Location: In-person/telecommuting- This position will work out of the King County Courthouse and the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) as needed.

Requirements

  • Discovery: assist in processing Evidence.com digital evidence in all phases of the discovery process; receive and upload digital evidence submitted via Evidence.com; become proficient in using the tools within Evidence.com; provide coverage for counterpart in other location; assist DXU paralegals with processing follow-up discovery as needed and time allows.
  • Other responsibilities may be added or changed as business needs evolve

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks that require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment and the ability to anticipate needs and appropriately respond.
  • Possession of excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team-environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with and respond in a positive, experienced and helpful manner with diverse individuals; analytical and critical thinking skills to make decisions and initiate action.
  • Skill for proven time management in effectively and accurately handling multiple tasks within short deadlines.
  • Possession of basic paralegal skills including identification of legal problems, knowledge of legal terminology, interpretation and application of laws, rules, and regulations is preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and unexpected responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion involving highly critical matters.
  • Skill in using computers and a variety of software such as Prosecutor by Karpel-PbK (with training), Evidence.com, Word, Adobe Pro, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; familiarity with JABS, SAW, JBRS, Accurint and other criminal justice programs is a plus.
  • Desire to learn a wide variety of new skills and be able to adapt to and work comfortably in a fast-paced work environment and have knowledge of legal office practices and procedures, particularly in the Criminal Division.
  • Support Race, Equity and Social Justice policies and principles; desire to work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Receptive to instructions, feedback, and coaching.
  • Must have demonstrated predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and courtroom proceedings is desired.

PAO employees who are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117 will receive priority consideration.

Selection Process

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, qualified bargaining unit members will be invited to participate in a panel interview process.


*Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of Teamsters Local No. 117.
