  • Valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Restriction (L) removed and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed
  • Possession of a Medical Examiner's Certificate per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance, component repairs (e.g., transmissions, brakes, clutches), and electrical system overhauls
  • Experience with gasoline and diesel engines in a diverse fleet
  • Full-time availability for on-site work, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday, with potential seasonal schedule variations

The Department of Transportation is seeking a talented Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to join our Cameron County Maintenance Organization, where you will play a crucial role in our operations. Your expertise will be vital in prolonging the life of our highway and construction vehicles and equipment. Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors, as well as equipment like sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your tasks will involve replacing and repairing components such as shock absorbers, transmissions, clutches, and brakes, in addition to balancing wheels and ensuring proper alignment. You will also perform minor body repairs and conduct overhauls and tests on alternators and electrical systems.

As a licensed and experienced automotive and heavy equipment mechanic, your expertise in analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair tasks for a diverse fleet of construction equipment and vehicles will be crucial to our operations. This role entails maintaining equipment powered by gasoline or diesel engines, ensuring that our fleet is serviced effectively to uphold public safety.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Schedule varies seasonally and/or due to operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employments within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employments at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. This position requires that the Manual Transmission Restriction (E) is removed.
  • This position requires possession of an Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
