Job Description

Summary

This job involves analyzing data to identify and manage risks in the military's supply chain, from making and buying items to storing, distributing, and disposing of them.

The role requires building models and using advanced techniques to predict issues and improve processes for the Defense Logistics Agency.

See below for important information regarding this job. To qualify for a Data Scientist (Supply Chain) your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Basic Requirement: 1.

A degree in Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR 2.

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. B.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.

Creditable specialized experience includes: Collects data and evaluates alternatives to assess projected capabilities for future mission support.

Provides technical expertise in data science, intelligence, artificial intelligence/machine learning, system analysis, risk analysis, predictive analysis, computer simulation, or program/project planning.

Possesses expert knowledge of a wide range of methods or techniques used in supply chain risk assessments. Knowledgeable in Supply Chain Risk Management or Supply Chain Security principles and methods.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • Conducts data, system, and risk analyses on the agency's end-to-end supply chain, which includes item manufacturing and acquisition, storage and distribution, and disposition services turn-in.
  • Formulates and develops models and techniques for quantitative evaluation and assessment of supply chain risks and their effect on accomplishing agency and customer missions.
  • Performs professional work in data science, intelligence, artificial intelligence/machine learning (Al/ML), system analysis, risk analysis, predictive analysis, computer simulation, program/project planning and controls, and other related areas.
  • Applies scientific methods, including regression, decision tree analytics, probability and game theory, and statistical analysis to research and improve supply chain risk assessment processes.
  • Develops the associated models, policy, and procedures for DLA.
  • Assignments involve unique or novel problems, requirements for creativity, innovative use of techniques, advanced approaches, and/or new technologies.
  • Serves as a technical expert and advisor to high-ranking government officials and senior supplier personnel.
  • Provides technical direction, planning, and leadership to create and implement new agency data and supply chain risk assessment policy and processes.
